MojiScribe Privacy Policy

Overview

MojiScribe is designed as a private journaling app for people age 13 and older. Journal entries, moods, photos, location tags, and weather snapshots are stored on your device and may sync through your private iCloud account only if you enable journal sync. Apple Health and Motion context remains only on the current device. Reminders and exports are also device-local unless you choose to share or export them using iOS sharing features.

GateCity CodeWorks, LLC does not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not use your journal, health, motion, location, photo, or voice-entry data to track you across apps or websites.

Data Stored on Your Device

MojiScribe may store the following information locally on your device:

• Journal entry text, entry dates, and selected moods.
• Optional photos you capture or select for journal entries.
• Optional location snapshots and place names used to add context to entries.
• Optional weather snapshots associated with saved locations.
• Optional Apple Health metrics: heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep duration, and active energy.
• Optional Motion activity context: steps, distance, and pace.
• Your first name, if you enter one during onboarding.
• App preferences, reminder settings, sorting and grouping choices, and aura display settings.
• Recently deleted entries until they are restored, deleted immediately, or automatically purged after 30 days.
• Local export files you create before sharing or saving them outside the app.

Apple Health and Motion

If you enable wellness insights, MojiScribe may request permission to read heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep duration, and active energy from Apple Health, and steps, distance, and pace from Motion. Access is optional, is requested for specific data types, and is enabled separately on each device.

MojiScribe reads this information to add private wellness context to saved journal entries and insights. Saved Health and Motion context is stored only in a device-local wellness store. It is not included in iCloud journal sync, and the wellness-access preference is not synchronized between devices.

MojiScribe does not write data to Apple Health. It does not use Apple Health or Motion data for advertising, marketing, unrelated data mining, diagnosis, or medical treatment. MojiScribe is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice.

Optional Private iCloud Journal Sync

Journal sync is optional and is off by default. If you enable it, MojiScribe uses your private iCloud account to synchronize journal text, moods, dates, photos, location and weather context, deletion state, and selected preferences across your Apple devices.

Apple Health and Motion context, the device's wellness-access preference, local reminders, and locally created export files are excluded from iCloud journal sync. Apple operates iCloud and CloudKit and processes synchronized data under Apple's policies and your iCloud settings.

Location and WeatherKit

If you enable location context and grant permission, MojiScribe may request your current location when adding context to an entry. It may use that location to save a place snapshot and to request current weather information from Apple's WeatherKit service. Apple may process the location and request information needed to provide WeatherKit results.

Saved location and weather snapshots improve your private journal record. You can still create and save entries without granting location permission.

Camera, Microphone, and Speech Recognition

MojiScribe requests camera or photo access only when you choose to add a photo to an entry. Microphone and Speech recognition permissions are requested only when you initiate voice entry.

Voice audio is provided to Apple's Speech recognition service to create a transcript. Depending on the device, language, system availability, and Apple's service behavior, recognition may occur on the device or audio may be sent to Apple for processing. MojiScribe does not save the captured audio recording as part of your journal and does not send it to GateCity CodeWorks servers. The resulting transcript becomes journal text when you save it.

Notifications

MojiScribe can schedule optional local reminders on your device. These reminders are not developer-operated remote push alerts and do not require MojiScribe to send your journal data to GateCity CodeWorks.

When optional journal sync is enabled, Apple may use silent CloudKit notifications to tell the app to refresh private iCloud data. These background notifications do not display journal content as an alert.

Data Collection and Sharing

MojiScribe does not currently collect personal data from the app to developer-controlled servers. The app does not include third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or tracking SDKs. GateCity CodeWorks does not receive your journal, health, motion, location, weather, photo, reminder, or locally stored preference data through the app.

If you voluntarily contact support, GateCity CodeWorks receives the information you submit, such as your name, email address, application or version, and message. Support information is handled under the Company & Website Privacy Policy. Please do not include journal or health content unless it is necessary for your request.

Exports and User-Directed Sharing

If you export or share journal records, the exported file may contain the information you selected for export. You control where that file is sent through the iOS share sheet or Files app. Once you send or save an export outside MojiScribe, the recipient, destination service, or storage location governs that copy.

Apple Services

Apple may process information when you use Apple services and system frameworks, including HealthKit, Motion, WeatherKit, Speech recognition, optional private CloudKit sync, iCloud device backup, App Store services, and system diagnostics. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's policies and your Apple account and device settings.

Where Apple or another permitted service provider processes information on our behalf, we expect it to protect that information consistently with this policy and applicable platform requirements.

Data Retention and Deletion

Active journal data remains until you delete it. Deleted entries move to Recently Deleted, are hidden from the journal and app exports, and are automatically eligible for permanent deletion after 30 days. You may restore an entry during that period or use Delete Now to permanently delete it sooner.

If journal sync is enabled, journal deletions and permanent purges synchronize through your private iCloud account. Device-only Health and Motion context is removed when its related entry is permanently purged, when you use the in-app action to remove saved wellness context, or when you delete the app. Copies may remain temporarily in user-managed iCloud or device backups according to Apple's backup behavior and your settings.

Local export files are controlled separately after you save or share them outside the app. You must delete those copies from their destination when you no longer want them.

Permissions and Privacy Choices

You can disable journal sync and wellness insights in MojiScribe Settings. You can remove saved wellness context using the in-app removal action. You can manage Health permissions in the Health app and manage location, camera, photo, microphone, Speech recognition, Motion, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.

Disabling a permission prevents future access but may not remove context already saved with an entry. Use MojiScribe's deletion and wellness-removal controls to remove saved data. You may request deletion of voluntarily submitted support information by emailing support@gatecitycodeworks.com.

Children

MojiScribe is intended for people age 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and GateCity CodeWorks does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the app. If you believe a child submitted information through our support channels, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as MojiScribe or its data practices change. The updated policy will show a new effective date. Material changes will be reflected before the changed practice is introduced when required.
